Purging B2B Lists for Cost Savings

Parked domains can indicate that a company has gone out of business. B2B marketers should extract the email domains from their leads as well as any website fields in their CRM to check which ones are parked.

Companies that do this once a quarter may be able to delete a significant number of dead leads from their lists to save on direct mail and telemarketing costs.

Purging Data Sets for Accuracy

Parked domains can skew search results. They can also skew analysis of web content. For instance, many parked domains have mobile versions. If we have a list of 2,000 auto dealerships and 50 of them are parked domains with mobile websites, we will get an incorrect number when we say x% of auto dealerships have mobile websites.

Another use case is Natural Language Processing (NLP) analysis of websites. Parked domains may have keywords that mislead NLP systems, which could lead to inaccurate analysis. For example, a NLP system reads web pages to determine what industry they are in. The system might be categorize the parked domain BestBut.com as a retailer because it’s squatting on BestBuy.com. In actuality, it’s not a retailer; it’s a parked domain.
